FROM OUR PAST & TODAY...
Taberg Trail Blazers, Inc. is a non-profit snowmobile club organized and founded in 1987. It was a very small, but dedicated, group of riders who were searching for trails in and around town to enable them to travel without scratching their sleds. Permission was sought from landowners and trail trimming began. Meetings were held at Pine Hill Inn.
The first memberships rosters contained approximately 30 names. In 1994 that number had grown to over 200 individuals and families. Today, that number continues to grow. Membership in snowmobile clubs is encouraged as members are updated with the latest information that affects the sport.
Grooming began with a Cushman Trackster. A Bombardier Alpine was purchased in 1988 and later a Bombardier Bomb was purchased and updated to become a grooming machine. A second Bombi was purchased and the grooming fleet was established. During the winter of 1996, numerous breakdowns and repairs made the grooming crew realize that an improved system was needed. The search began for something more modern. In March of 1997 it was decided to purchase a 1995 Tucker Sno-Cat from the IC. Riders. The machine was delivered to Taberg on November 10, 1997.
A need to connect trails, the blazers sought permission to extend their system into the Oswego County area. In 1998 a trail was cut to the abandoned O & W Railroad running along the north shore of Oneida Lake. What has long been the "missing link" tying our system together, known as C4. With this extended network, the blazers needed additional grooming equipment, (along with additional trail crew, which is still needed right now). In the fall of 2000 they purchased a second Tucker Snow Cat. This unit was acquired by our members diligence and seemly endless "ticket selling" raffles. After the struggle to get her from MA to NY, repairs/refinish work and building a custom drag it went into service January 2001. Affectively named the "Father Tucker"
